The OSCM is part of the Social in 3D project. It consists of already existing parts and 3D printed parts that can be ordered from any rapid manufacture. You just e-mail a 3D model of your product to the company, and a few days later receive a physical copy by mail.
The OSCM consists of parts that are special CAD elements and parts that can be bought ‘off the shelf’ – online or at your local DIY retailer.
The OSCM be used in two versions a) The Suction Cup OSCM for placement on the port side of the dinghy and b) the Quick Grip OSCM for placement on the rudder.
You are free to ”produce” you own camera mount and we encourage you to do so and share the result and your experience with the rest of the world.
To do it yourself you need to:
- Buy the parts that are already produced
- Download the files for the 3D printed parts
- Download and use a CAD-program (if you want to manipulate the files)
- Buy the 3D parts through a company that offers ‘rapid manufacturing’.
- Get the remaining bits and pieces
- Assemble your own open source camera mount

It is possible to manipulate the CAD-files with programs like the a demo version of the commercial Rhinoceros 3D (Rhinoceros tutorials) and the open-source K-3D. K-3D is free-as-in-freedom 3D modeling and animation software. It combines flexible plugins with a visualization pipeline architecture, making K-3D a versatile and powerful tool. The program has a build-in tutorial.
